A sterling silver decanter in the form of a full size bottle of champagne. This spectacular Victorian high quality decanter is made to resemble a champagne bottle. The crystal bottle itself is made in beautiful, fine, hand-blown glass with a slight vertical stepping, and narrowing proportions into the neck. The bottom has a hand formed indentation that is typically found on wine and champagne bottles in order for them to be poured comfortably by placing one's thumb inside.
The large collar of the decanter is made from sterling silver to resemble the 'foil' of a champagne bottle. The cork and sterling lid is fully detachable and designed in a clean way, with a nod to a wire wrapped champagne cork, showing faux 'wire marks' where the tightened stopper would have been held in place. Both the original cork end piece and lid have all the original English control marks, matching the hallmarks on the neck. The fit of the stopper is air tight, and will keep contents sealed.
These bottles in full original condition, such as this, are exceptionally rare today. They can be used to keep any spirit or wine desired, or can be used to decant champagne for a special occasion. The bottle was made in Birmingham, England, by esteemed silversmith John Heath & John Middleton, in 1893. The condition is perfect throughout.
